The 12th Euroregional Theatrical Meeting started in Timisoara
According to tradition, the opening ceremony was preceded by an art exhibition. This time, the plastic artist Benedek Levente and the graphic artist of the Hungarian State Theater Csíky Gergely surprised the audience with an unusual exhibition. Collages of posters, photos, stickers, theater tickets, etc. collected by him over the course of fifteen years, have been received with great interest by the general public. The artist’s ingenuity manifested itself in the fact that he invited the members of the community to complete 40 unfinished collages together, due to lack of time. After the inventive opening, director Balázs Attila opened the series of theatrical plays.
The central theme of the 12th ETMT deals with the concept of Hero and Antihero, and – nomenest omen! – in the last moment before the start the Hero and Antihero are forced to fight, and the result of this “confrontation” is the meeting called SEMI-ITET, which can be considered the 11th and a half festival as a result of the diminished budget… The first performance of the multicultural and international theater meeting was a piece of the Sociopath / Hamlet by Andrei Prikotenko of the Stary Dom State Drama Theater in Novosibirsk. The new version of production is a transcription of the well-known event, in which the fundament of To be or not to be? is losing its importance, and is replaced by problems, phenomena, actions and processes of contemporary man, consciousness and sense of shame.
Mocking glass of our world
On the second day of ETMT the broader public – this time the phrase does not fully cover reality, because this title refers to a basic team of the audience, frequenters of artistic institutions, esteemed, permanent, constant and persistent in all circumstances but in the showroom of the Hungarian State Theater Csíky Gergely in Timisoara, for obvious reasons, the journalist was able to discover very few spectators from Timisoara – so on the second day, the production of the reinterpreted Swan Lake, directed by Kokan Mladenovic could be seen.Kokan Mladenovic’s directorial style is not unknown for the public in Timisoara, in the last few years they had the opportunity to watch the great play The Opera of Beggars and Shakespeare Sonata 66 at the Hungarian Theater, and at the Romanian theater the drama entitled Prometheus, better known as the Kokan Mladenovic of these pieces. It is a fact of this director that in his productions nothing is what it seems to be, and what is something, it is definitely not. The aforementioned statement, which can be interpreted as a confusion, is confirmed by the latest production, the Lake of Swans, which has at least the same impact as the eight trombonists at the Trombone Ensemble in Szeged participating in the Hungarian Days of the Banat organized in Timisoara, presenting Egmont Overture by Beethoven or the monumental Bohemian Rhapsody of the Queen! The first moment of the show, in which many members of the Hungarian section are playing, is impressive, the spectator is shocked by the unusual view through his own story, embedded in the well-known swan story, the director is presenting a considerable number of important messages in the mocking glass we can constantly recognize ourselves or our immediate or wider environment, those figures, phenomena and malformed behavior patterns which nowadays are interpreted as norms. As a result, our world is what it is. The classic fairy tale provides only a loose frame, with a piece of excellent acting, swans and dance of swans, tutu, love, money, wickedness, pretense, Pharisee hypocrisy, exclusion, inclusion, value and misery, respectively heroes and antiheroes play their part. So the director offers the spectator simultaneously, through the mocked glass, the possibility of depression and unlimited fun. As a result of the play, the viewer indispensably asks what has happened to us, but the answer to this question is another story.
Tétesd’Affiche, respectively to pay for the dance
The dance production of Dancing Company Cie Malka from France, I would simply translate it into a Head of Poster, which refers to the most prominent place, most visible on the poster …That’s why it can get in the center of public attention with good chances. Dancing artists have authentically formulated loneliness, rejection, the form of mechanical existence in the limited center of the scene, after which a kind of community has probably been born on the symbolic stage of the world, and then started a struggle with all possible means to arrives on the front page at any price.
The curtain falls.
