UDMR chairman Kelemen Hunor said on Tuesday that his party would not support Justice Minister Tudorel Toader in a simple case against him and that Union MPs will punish him by vote, Agerpres reports.
“We will not support Mr. Toader this time. It’s a simple motion, it’s Parliament’s ability to control the work of an Executive Minister. My colleagues tomorrow morning will have a group meeting, but we will not support Mr Toader under these conditions. In the simple motion there are many things that I disagree with, but as far as the Emergency Ordinance is concerned, we have no rational argument (…)”, said Kelemen Hunor at TVR1.
He added that MPs can not be considered “useful idiots”.
“When we supported those changes in the organization of the judiciary and the professional career of magistrates, by which the two careers – prosecutors and judges – were separated, we supported a healthy principle, we supported a good idea and we did it with all conviction (…). The Justice Minister did not come to Parliament, he did not have any position, he just said that the Parliament is legislating, the ministry does not bother, it’s your job in Parliament. To wake up three weeks ago that, suddenly, the Ministry of Justice and the Government are legislating and disregarding everything we do (…), Mr Toader suddenly legislates instead of Parliament. To see today that the Emergency Ordinance 7 was changed again, it was reinstated in the original version. (…) We can not do such thing from one day to another, we seem to have spoken in vain, we have worked in vain, we were simply I do not know whose useful idiots “, the UDMR president said.
The simple motion titled “Tudorel Toader and PSD – ALDE, Take Your Dirty Hands from Justice”, initiated by 91 PNL and USR deputies, was debated on Tuesday in the Chamber of Deputies, and the final vote will be given on Wednesday.
PSD Deputy Florin Iordache on Tuesday launched a front-line attack on Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, accused of failing to comply with the PSD’s decisions to amend the Criminal Codes by emergency ordinances and, by order, to give them the possibility of offenders permanently convicted by the 5 judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice from 2014 to be able to challenge court sentences.
Iordache also suggested to Tudorel Toader to resign from the Ministry of Justice, including a possible remodel.
Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said he would stick to the decision if he will be resigned from his office and will satisfy his obligation until the last minute.
On Monday, PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea sent an unambiguous warning to Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, suggesting that the simple motion against him, which will be debated Wednesday in the Chamber of Deputies, could be adopted.
