Roman-Hungarian coexistence from the pupils’s point of view

We organized the first “friendship camp” in Chiuruş, in Debreczi Pension, between 20-25th August. The aim was thsat of Hungarian and Romanian children to become friends, to communicate with each other, to develop their knowledge and to have fun in their time together. Forty students from Kőrösi Csoma Sándor High School, I. B. and IV. A. classes, participated in the camp with Professor Butyka Enikő.

After they had got to know each other, they were distributed in “families”, older students of Romanian nationality were parents, the younger ones were children. We have established the role of family members: parents take care of children, and children have to listen to their parents, and of course, everyone respects each other. Each family made a family book, which contains each family member, their age. They also created the coat of arms that represents the family together. The book also included their favorite dishes, animals, the favorite sport of the members. We can say that the camp was about trying to prioritize sports activities, therefore all of the programmes during this period were organized according to this perspective.

We had a wide range of activities on the programme, which represented the children’s experience, we put together 21 ribbons in total, each of them describing the activities during the camp. After the assessment everyone had the chance to take them home as a memory from the camp.

We are very grateful to the Local Council of Covasna and for the Communitas Foundation, as well as for the parents helping with the project. We thank the Bobyia and Sport For All associations for their cooperation to make the camp much more fun.
