EXCLUSIVE The story of the teacher who writes Romanian textbooks for minorities but is not allowed to teach

“The children have been waiting for 3 weeks for a Romanian language teacher, because I am not allowed to teach them anymore. But my students did not have an hour without a teacher in the class because I was present and I taught the lessons in Romanian somewhat illegally, ” declared for EduPedu.ro a teacher from Oradea. She has written 3 textbooks of Communication in Romanian for Hungarian-language schools, the last of which was approved by Valentin Popa’s Ministry of Education. An ordinance promoted under his mandate, just 20 days before the beginning of the school, decided that the teacher should be replaced by a secondary school or high school teacher. Finally, the ordinance was abrogated.

How has the ordinance, which has forbidden for a month the teachers to translate Romanian, affected classes of children? A teacher, Valeria Zahu, showed us what a legal disruption means for children.

“It has been 3 weeks since the children await a teacher of Romanian Language and Literature and did not do an hour with that teacher. I am in the classroom from the morning to the afternoon and I am waiting for the teacher of Romanian Literature and Language to show up. There was a teacher, I did a demonstrative lesson, I showed her the textbook website, the school curriculum to study, I introduced the children, she also presented herself, but the next day she did not come, due to the fact that she resigned. Then came another teacher, but she did not return because she said she had no appointment to teach, “Valeria Zahu, teacher at Szacsvay Imre School in Oradea, said at the end of last week for EduPedu.ro.
