Three years ago, the National Anticorruption Directorate “jumped” with home searches, hearings, restrictive measures to the mayor of Sfantu Gheorghe, Antal Árpád, but still nothing happened in the last 18 months in this case, the case is not closed.
Three years ago, the search was carried out by the DNA at the home of Mayor Antal Árpád, in his office, in the mayor’s office and in the mayor’s friends, and then he was transported to Bucharest for audition by gendarmes masked with a minibus with dark windows. After a year and a half the authorities have ceased all restrictions.
“In connection with this case, I can not answer your questions, because I just have questions as well”, said Antal Árpád. Three years ago, on February 17, instead of the alarm clock, the mayor and his family were awakened by the gendarmes.
“A few months before the local elections, the whole city was basically confused. At that moment it was very urgent, and then, for three years, nothing happened in this case, “the mayor said. He added that for two months he was forbidden to perform his duties, for a year he was forbidden to leave the country and for one and a half years was under official supervision, which meant he had to come to the police more than 100 times.
“Then the restrictions were slowly eliminated. The first time the restriction to exercise the post was dismantled, then the restriction to leave the country and then the official oversight was lifted. The investigating authority has not yet made a decision in this case, has not closed the case, nor has it been brought to justice. I can only guess what was their purpose “- concluded Antal.
The UDMR magistrate feels he reacted calmly, upside down, and the events had no effect on his political views. “A learning experience that can be taught. I think I have become stronger; I found out who I can rely on in such situations and who is happy if the man has problems. I could have imagined my life without such experience, but what does not kill me makes me stronger, “the mayor said.
As we know, DNA reported three years ago that it suspected Mayor Antal Árpád that he had used the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan for a different purpose from the original one.
EBRD said that all financial investments are monitored and there is no indication that they have not been used as it should in the case of the loan in Sfântu Gheorghe. The Mayor, starting from the first moment, has dropped the allegations, pointing out that they have acted legally in executing the EBRD loan agreement: the bank has constantly monitored the procedure and everything was fine.
