The political formation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Fidesz, should leave the center-right European People’s Party, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Tuesday, according to Politico.eu.
Juncker’s statements were made in the context that the Budapest Government launched a campaign against the President of the EU Executive, criticising immigration policies.
In October, Juncker said that Viktor Orban ”has no place” in the conservative political group.
Orban’s latest campaign, announced on Monday in a Facebook post, features smiley faces of Soros and Juncker, “And you have the right to know what Brussels is doing!”
“There is not much you can do against lies,” Juncker said about the Fidesz campaign. He said at a public meeting in Stuttgart, Germany, that the EPP leader, European Parliament presidential candidate Manfred Weber, should ask “if this attitude is needed” in the political group.
EPP has called for Fidesz to be removed from its office in the European Parliament, especially after MEPs adopted a motion last year stating that Hungary risks violating the EU’s core values, triggering the so-called disciplinary action under Article 7 against Budapest.
“They did not vote in my favor in the European Parliament,” Juncker said on Tuesday about Fidesz. “Neither the extreme right. I remember Mrs. [Marine] Le Pen, she said:’ I’m not voting for you.’ I said, ‘I do not want your vote.’ There are certain votes that I simply do not want. ”
