DECLARATION OF THE DAY Kelemen, about the project on separate development regions: No one wants to steal Transylvania

UDMR chairman, Kelemen Hunor, is waiting for all political forces in Parliament to support him with the law project that concerns the adoption of some points in the Alba Iulia resolution, saying “Do not be afraid, Romanian brothers, no one wants to steal Transylvania “.

Kelemen Hunor told the MEDIAFAX correspondent on Tuesday that if the Alba Iulia resolution can be considered the basis of the Union, then the points in the document should be taken seriously.

“We expected in 2018, but in fact for a few years, on the part of the majority, the Romanian politicians to have an initiative, a symbolic gesture at 100 years from the Union of Transylvania with Romania, through which points of the Alba Iulia resolution be transposed into Romanian law. However, 100 years have passed since a strong majority and a nation that trusts and cares about minorities properly should think about what happened at this time and the Alba Iulia resolution. If this Resolution is the basis of the Union, then those points must be taken seriously.

If we saw that there was no such gesture, we prepared this project in early November, but we decided not to submit it before December 1, in order not to disrupt the preparations for the celebration of the Romanian society and to have no discussions but to submit it after this date. We have not discussed with anyone about the project, neither with the PSD, nor with the ALDE, nor with the opposition parties, but I think it would take the votes of all parliamentarians in political parties in Parliament. I expect a support from all the political forces in the Parliament, “Kelemen added, adding that the relationship between the majority and the ethnic minorities and the future of Romanian society is not the doom of power and should not be dealt with in the ” opposition and power” key.

Asked if he is not afraid that the drafting of the project will cause nationalist reactions, the UDMR leader said that he noticed that if the Hungarians, in addition to quietly breathing, make any move, such “hysterical” reactions of a certain part occur immediately.

“Do not be afraid, Romanian brothers, that no one wants to steal Transylvania, this is my message. Loyalty can be earned in many ways, but an ethnic minority will be loyal to the state and the country where it lives when the national ethnic identity is not jeopardized”, Kelemen said.

According to a communiqué sent on Monday, in Centennary year, the UDMR proposes to raise the legal status of paragraph 1 of point III of the Resolution of the National Assembly in Alba Iulia on December 1, 1918, so it submitted to Parliament a draft normative act “The transposition into legislation of the provisions concerning the co-peoples of the Alba Iulia resolution of 1 December 1918”.

Subparagraph 1 of paragraph III of the Resolution of the National Assembly of Alba Iulia of 1 December 1918 provides: “Full national freedom for all cohabiting peoples. Every nation will be trained, administered and judged in its own language by individuals in its own bosom, and each people will receive the right to be represented in the legislative bodies and the government of the country in proportion to the number of individuals that make it up. ”

Regarding the situation in the governmental coalition, the UDMR president said that it has a majority in Parliament in the two chambers taken together, so there would be no danger even in the case of a censure motion, but a problem is the Chamber Deputies.

“We continue, as we have done so far, we are trying to pursue a pragmatic and main policy and we will vote for any initiatives, whether they come from the Government or the MPs, about which we believe that for the society as a whole it is good, and we will not vote for the draft laws we believe are not beneficial to society. We do not see who’s going and where, it’s their problem, not ours, “Kelemen said.

The leader of the Union denied that there is any link between the UDMR draft and the situation in the PSD or the PSD -ALDE coalition.

“Those who try to couple these two issues or live with different scenarios or fake-news in the head. The two issues can not be linked, “concluded Kelemen Hunor.
