Former Leader of European Socialists in the EP: This political family must separate itself from controversial members such as those from Romania

Former leader of European Socialists and European Democrats in the European Parliament, Austrian Hannes Swoboda, believes that European Social Democrats need an ample renewal process. Specifically, this political family will have to urgently break away from controversial members like those from Romania whose politics “has little to do with social-democracy”, told Sowoba to APA’s Austrian news agency.

‘We have to tell certain parties: It does not work. It is to the detriment of the social democrats that their image will get associated with and affected by people or parties that do not meet our fundamental principles’, said Swoboda on Tuesday. In this context, the Austrian MEP recommended the independent parties to evaluate the parties concerned.
