Ukraine reacted harshly at the diplomatic level after the last two initiatives of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who set up a post of Transcarpathian minister, and said the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations are not realistic.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry considers Orban’s statement “unacceptable” and summoned him to explain the Hungarian businessman in Kiev, Korrespondent quoted Rador as saying.
Thus, Kiev has expressed its protest in connection with “a series of unhealthy steps of Budapest in the relationship with Ukraine”. Also, Kiev stressed the need to end the actions that negatively affect the relations between Hungary and Ukraine.
Previously, Kiev criticized Budapest after the Hungarian Government set up a post of minister responsible for the development of the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. Hungary’s Business Charge in Ukraine, László Papp, has been sent a note in which Kiev asks for official explanations regarding Budapest’s decision to set up a post of minister responsible for the development of Transcarpathia and kindergartens in this region, respectively is part of the sovereign state of Ukraine. “Despite the constructive approach of the Ukrainian side to solve the issues of concern, recent actions of Hungary suggest that Budapest chose confrontation instead of cooperation and direct interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs” – a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Kiev.
Recall that Orban made the statements accused by Kiev in Băile Tuşnad (Romania).
Hungary did not remain owed, and Hungarian State Secretary responsible for communication and promotion of Hungary’s international image at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry Tamás Menczer replied that Ukraine can not approach the European Union and NATO because of its own mistake, Hungary has nothing to do with this. Tamás Menczer has reacted to the Foreign Ministry’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Kiev, László Csaba Pap, because of the “unfriendly” statements recently made by Prime Minister Victor Orbán in Băile Tuşnad regarding the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine, writes MTI, taken over by Rador.
The state secretary specified: in Băile Tuşnad, the Hungarian prime minister talked about a reality, and for this reason Ukraine can not reproach Hungary. It was not Hungary that took unfriendly measures against Ukraine, but vice versa. Not in Hungary, but in Ukraine, it was decided to adopt a law on education that renders impossible the teaching of mother tongue in national minorities.
