Viktor Orban at Tusvanyos: Hungary is interested in a strong and stable Romania

Hungary is interested in a strong and stable Romania, capable of stopping the migration phenomenon, said Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday at Tusvanyos Summer University in Baile Tusnad.

“One thing we have to say from the beginning – Hungary is interested in a strong and stable Romania. How long will the Orthodoxy stand here and to what extent will Romania be able to stop the migration phenomenon? It is a security issue, of national security for both Romania and Hungary. And it is a key issue for both Austrians and Germans, but Austria and Germany still have not realized this, but we hope that this recognition will not be delayed too long”, the Hungarian Prime Minister said.

Viktor Orban said he wishes “good luck” for the Romanians, recommending them, at the same time, to prevent the situation from having a “double economic deficit”.

“It is very important to rejoice that there is economic development in Romania, but if this development is based only on loans it is very difficult to avoid this situation in which there will be a double deficit. To have also a big state debt and a lot of loans contracted at the same time (…) is not good. We have fallen into this trap and it has been difficult to overcome this impasse and we want Romania not to have the problems we have”, Orban said.

He argued that he wanted to have a “good and special relationship” with each political party in Romania and expressed his regret that Romanian politicians and representatives of the Bucharest Government did not attend the invitation to attend the Summer University at the Baile Tusnad.

“It is a shame we do not have a guest with whom we could have a real dialogue and we could indeed demonstrate that it is absolutely beneficial and valuable to have a dialogue. (…) It would be ideal to have an interlocutor, a representative, why not, the Government of Bucharest or someone else. (…) We have had such opportunities and we hope to have interlocutors in the futuret, the Budapest official added.
