Russian military missile is thought to have downed Flight MH17

The European Union and NATO call for Russia to acknowledge its responsibility in the MH17 catastrophe downed by a missile over East-Ukraine in 2014, informs France Presse.

In two separate statements, EU and NATO ask the Russian Federation to acknowledge its responsibility and to cooperate fully to claim the liability for the destruction of the airplane owned by Malaysian Airlines.

Russia should take responsibility for downing Malaysian Airlines’ airplane, which executed the MH17 flight over East-Ukraine in 2014 and to cooperate with the international investigation regarding this incident, declared on Friday the general secretary of NATO.

“I invite Russia to take responsibility and to cooperate fully to respond to consequences in conformity with resolution number 2166 of UN’S Security Council, said Stoltenberg. “Downing MH17 was a global tragedy and those responsible for it should be held accountable”, emphasized the General Secretary of NATO.

Netherlands and Australia accused Russia on Friday, on account of being responsible for the MH17 catastrophe, in a declaration which opens the way for criminal prosecution.

This announcement intervenes one day after the conclusion of the international investigations, which states that Buk missile, which downed the airplane, originates from the 53th Antiaircraft Brigade with its base in Kursk (Russian Federation). Moscow denied these conclusions.

Netherlands and Australia, countries from where originated the majority of the 298 victims, “considers Russia as the one responsible for participating in the destruction of the airplane” – Dutch Government.

“The destruction of the MH17 flight caused irreparable suffering”, mentioned Stef Blok, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, one day after publishing the conclusions by the international investigating team (JIT), conducted by the Netherlands.

The two countries can send this complex dossier from now on to organizations or  international courts, according to the same sources.

Moscow rejected on Friday the accusations formulated by the Netherlands and Australia in the MH17 tragedy in East-Ukraine, conform Interfax.

“The investigation conducted in the Netherlands by JIT does not include the Russian part as well, however the Ukrainian part was represented. And, obviously, not having the possibility of being a full participant of this investigating team, Russia does not know to what extent can the results of this investigations be trusted”, declared Dmitri Peskov, Kremlin’s spokesperson, cited by Interfax and Reuters.

Malaysia Airlines’ airplane, which made the connection between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur, was downed in a zone controlled by Russian separatist rebels on July the 17th, 2014. All of the 298 pasagers, Dutch in majority, died .
