The EU is no longer so popular in Romania

In just a few months, the confidence of the Romanian people in the European Union has fallen by 10%, according to the recently published Eurobarometer survey. According to updated data, fewer than half of Romanians, 49%, have positive opinion about the membership in the European Union. However, at a referendum, only 17% of Romanians would support the country’s exit from the EU.

Vladimir Ionaş, a Romanian sociologist said: while voices can be heard criticizing Brussels, Romanians are totally aware of the usefulness of joining the European family.

– It is also possible to damage the positive image of the EU and EU leaders if the Brussels superiors do not recognize that Central and Eastern European citizens have different problems and expectations than those in Germany or France and await clear communication – said Ionas, considering that neither in Romania, nor even in Hungary or in Poland, the problem is not being in the EU, but rather how EU leaders lead.

According to the analyst from Group of Socio-Behavioral Studies Avangarde, EU leaders are making mistakes when playing with ultimatums. As Vladimir Ionaş said about the election results for the European Parliament next year: as expected, the voters will reject the big parties of the continent, especially those belonging to the People’s Party family.

In Germany, France, Italy, the People’s Party is in bad shape, and most likely will be weak at the competition. The Avangarde expert expects an increase in the power of parties that make more radical messages, so he believes that the Northern League from Italy, or the Alternative Party from Germany might be successful.
