RADOR (October 16th) – The post-communist political class in Romania has no political will to regulate the issue of minorities, traditionally unresolved, in the absence of which it is inconceivable to ensure long-term social peace and stability in Romania, said on Tuesday at Bruxelles , MEP FIDESZ, László Tőkés.
The MEP pointed at the conference entitled “The Romanians and Hungarians in Europe”, which was organized at the European Parliament on the occasion of the Centenary of the Great Union, the Hungarians and Romanians require a constructive dialogue of mutual understanding of the peaceful regulation of relations, and resolving the situation of the oppressed Hungarians.
In a statement to the MTI Press Agency, László Tőkés pointed at that Romanian-Hungarian relations are not discussed not even today, and the parties tend to silence the undisguised issues that have a splitting impact. In his opinion, the celebrations dedicated to the centenary anniversary in Romania are open challenges to the Hungarian population, being totally ignored by the Hungarians’ feelings as well as the historical situation.
The jubilee year to most Romanians creates the opportunity to promote the most brutal anti-Hungarian attacks and to commit abuses by the Romanian authorities, said László Tőkés, who added that “he would like to abandon the custom that the Hungarians take care of the sensitivity of the Romanians, but the Romanians do not care about the sensitivity of the Hungarians.”
“We have been tired of the hypocritical and cordial negotiations during communism and have no results or politically correct speeches,” said Tőkés, who pointed out: “A hundred years ago, what meant for the Romanians a gain, for the Hungarians was a tragic loss. This historic anachronistic contradiction is the main obstacle to our proximity and to a dialogue. As nationalism revives, and former communist secret service, Securitate, works today in another form, there is no room for dialogue. Three decades after the change of regime, Romania follows Ceausescu’s spirit”.
The lack of the rule of law in Romania is an integral part of the discriminatory anti-mafia policy promoted by Romania, which even led the European Parliament to set the order on this issue, concluded László Tőkés. (MTI – October 16)
