Tăriceanu refuses once again the suspension of the president proposed by Dragnea: The triggering of the procedure may have unpredictable consequences

ALDE, the party headed by Călin Popescu Tăriceanu and the coalition partner of the SDP, does not favor the idea of suspending President Klaus Iohannis, as requested by Liviu Dragnea.

In a point of view published on the party’s website, the ALDE states that the suspension of the head of state requires a careful assessment of the risks and consequences as it can have unpredictable consequences.

“Suspension of President Klaus Iohannis – increasingly out of the demands and dignity of his job – is a decision of maximum responsibility, which requires a careful assessment of the possible risks and consequences. The triggering of the suspension process, in a deeply divided society, incited to fanaticism and violence by unscrupulous political leaders, may have unpredictable consequences. In other words, the decision to remove a diseased part of the Romanian state body should be made only if we are convinced that the operation will not disturb the functioning of the state, the greater the precaution, as in the first half of next year Romania will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is only after such an assessment and taking its conclusions that we can make an informed choice about the opening of the suspension procedure, ” according to ALDE’s point of view.

Liviu Dragnea said on Tuesday evening at Antena 3 that he wants to suspend Iohannis, but he is waiting to see if head of ALDE has changed his mind.

“I would like to suspend Iohannis, but I would like to find out first if Tăriceanu has changed his mind,” Dragnea replied when asked if he wants to suspend the president.

Călin Popescu Tăriceanu also blocked in July an attempt by Liviu Dragnea to suspend President Klaus Iohannis.
